Image inspired by Edward Hopper’s Drugstore painting. Every now and then I try to recreate one of his images as a personal exercise in image creation.
Hopper deliberately painted scenes from memory to allow his personal experience to alter the scene according to what stuck in his mind. The results are striking and some have said they have a surrealist quality to them – I do not agree that they are surrealist but I do believe they manifest a lot of his personal psychology.
My exercise for this image was to attempt to recreate his image in a photorealistic way, as if Hopper had simply taken a photograph of something real.
This image was the winning entry for a 3D World Magazine Creative Challenge competition.
